
Guru Purnima is celebrated on the Purnima (Full Moon Day) of the hindu month of Ashadha .
It is a day to honor and pay tribute to one’s Guru’s & Teachers.
The word “Guru” means “Dispeller of Darkness” in Sanskrit, and on this day, we offer our gratitude to Gurus for dispelling our ignorance and helping us on the path to enlightenment.
Here are some of the special significance of Guru Purnima:
- It marks a birthday of Maharshi Veda Vyasa, who is author of Mahabharat & compiled Veda & Purans.
- It is the day when the first guru, Adiyogi, transmitted the yogic sciences to his first disciples, the Saptarishis.
- It is the day when Lord Mahavira, the founder of Jainism, made Gautam Swami his first disciple.
- It is the day when the monsoon season begins in India.
- Guru Purnima is a day to remember the importance of teachers and mentors in our lives, express our gratitude for their guidance and wisdom, and to renew our commitment to the path of learning and growth.
